Is Your Skincare Aging You?

Is Your Skincare Aging You?

You can look younger, fresher and rejuvenated by simply changing one or two daily skin care habits.

Imagine looking in the mirror each morning and seeing a youthful, fresh face smiling back at you.

Most people aren't aware that one of the most harmful things you can do to your skin is to not remove your makeup properly.

Old makeup on your skin oxidises and this creates free radicals that gradually eat away at the health of your skin.

This leads to dehydration of the skin, loss of skin brilliance and deflation in volume of skin. These 3 results leave your skin looking drier, greyer and wrinkled - the 3 main symptoms of aging skin.

Acne, dermatitis and other skin conditions can also be directly linked to the cleanliness of your skin.

Makeup residue can block your pores - this can cause your sebaceous glands to product more oil in an attempt to force the dirt out of your pores.  If the pores are blocked, however with no way for the oil to release, you end up with blackheads and pimples.

Cleansing your skin is a 2 step process -

Step 1 is to remove the makeup product

Step 2 is to cleanse away any smaller particles of dirt or bacteria.

Removing Makeup

There are several liquid and cream products on the market promoted as makeup removers. Many have harmful chemicals, alcohol, heavy oils that may remove product, but at the same time they can damage the health of your skin.

We recommend using a makeup remover cloth - with only water, these cloths are highly effective at removing even the most stubborn particles of makeup - whether they are water-based or oil-based.

Our Lead Makeup Artist, Roni, has sourced an amazing, all natural makeup cloth that is 70% bamboo and 30% fine cotton. Bamboo, which is very strong and flexible, also has a natural antibacterial compound that helps to keep your skin free from bacteria, as well as keeping the cloth fresher. The fine cotton makes the cloth smooth and fine enough to pick up the smallest makeup particles.

Once you've removed your makeup, just was the cloth in fresh water and it's ready to use again. Wash it in with your normal laundry each week (place in your delicates bag) to revitalise it for the next week.

Our Senior Skincare consultant, Kylie, has literally tested hundreds of facial cleansers on the market.

Here are Kylie's tips for choosing a facial cleanser:

A good botanical based cleanser is the most healthy way to remove the remaining dirt and bacteria from your skin.

Choose a cleanser that is alcohol-free, SLS free and gentle to keep your skin healthy
